Blog Post By Mat Weier

The Wild West XCO (Cross Country Olympic) Series is a mountain bike event that consists of six races held at four locations throughout South East Queensland; Walloon (near Ipswich), Adare (Gatton), Samford and Castle Hill (Ipswich). The South Burnett Mountain Bike Club has male and female riders of all ages competing in and loving the series. There are 1st, 2nd & 3rd podium position up for grabs at each race. A riders 4 best podium positions from 6 races count towards an overall series placing. Each race concludes with a presentation to award prizes to place getters and give a shout out to sponsors. Also, a selection of races accrue points towards the MTBA National Cup Championship.

Race 3 of the Series was an exciting one! It was held on Sunday 20th January at Samford and attracted high profile riders such as Cameron Wright (2017 XCO Junior World Champion), Holly Lubcke (2018 XCO U17 Women’s National Series Winner) and John Provan; SBMTB Club member (2018 Masters 5 National Series Winner). This race was a wonderful opportunity for club riders to participate in the same event as the Nation’s top riders and to witness their professionalism, athleticism and ability. The SBMTB Club has a consistently strong representation of riders and support crew at these events. Junior and senior club riders often race against strong competition, older and more experienced riders and manage to frequently appear on the podium. We are looking forward to the 2 remaining races for the series, being held at Adare and Castle Hill in March.

Go SBMTB Club riders!
